Now that the Denver Broncos playoff dreams have ended, all eyes are looking towards the 2019 offseason and how this franchise might get back on track.
Coincidentally, SB Nation dropped their first mock draft for 2019 on Monday with the Broncos picked 12th overall. Now quarterback is clearly a need, but both of the top two quarterbacks are off the board well before Denver’s pick, so instead, they go No Fly Zone to help boost the back end of a still-talented defense.
12. Denver Broncos: Byron Murphy, CB, Washington
Bradley Roby has been a bit of a disappointment for Denver after being taken in the first round in 2014. There are several good first round cornerback options in this draft, and Murphy is among them. He’s a playmaker with impressive ball skills.
I love this pick. Murphy is considered one of the top cornerbacks in the nation and some even think he is CB #1 this year.
According to The Draft Network, Murphy has the upside to becoming one of the best NFL cornerbacks by his third year in the league.
Byron Murphy is an elite prospect who can plug into just about any system at play at a high level. Murphy has surreal mobility and polish for a younger prospect. His explosiveness, ball skills and route recognition skills make him a great fit to play in both shallow and short zones. Murphy would have little issue stepping up and filling on the boundary or contesting shallow throws in front of his face. Murphy has the upside to be one of the best cornerbacks in the NFL by the end of year 3.
If a franchise quarterback option isn’t available, then the best choice John Elway could make is to make the same type of choice he made when his two favorite quarterback options came off the board during the 2018 NFL Draft. Go with the top defensive player on the board.
This is one mock I can wholeheartedly support!
