Denver Broncos LS Casey Kreiter added to AFC’s Pro Bowl roster

From struggling to make a 53-man roster in the NFL to earning an All-Star nod, Denver Broncos long snapper Casey Kreiter has had quite the football journey.

Kreiter was added to the AFC’s Pro Bowl roster Wednesday, the team announced. Long snappers are not voted into the game — coaches for each conference pick their long snappers each year.

This year, Los Angeles Chargers coach Anthony Lynn is serving as the AFC’s coach and he selected Kreiter as his long snapper.

Kreiter (6-1, 250 pounds) entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent out of Iowa in 2014. He signed with the Dallas Cowboys but failed to make the team’s 53-man roster. Kreiter went to training camp with the Cowboys again in 2015 but failed to make the team again.

Then, in 2016, Kreiter signed with the Broncos and won the long snapper job. He has been the team’s starter for the last three years. The 28-year-old specialist earned a base salary of $630,000 in 2018 and will be a restricted free agent this offseason.

Kreiter is the first long snapper in franchise history to earn a Pro Bowl nod. According to a press release from the team, he handled 146 snaps (85 punts, 25 field goals, 35 extra point attempts and 1 fake punt) this season and all of them were delivered without any mishaps.

Kreiter will join outside linebacker Von Miller and running back Phillip Lindsay in Orlando for the All-Star game. Lindsay will not be able to play in the Pro Bowl because of a wrist injury but he will serve as a social media correspondent for the NFL.

If the New England Patriots defeat the Kansas City Chiefs this weekend, cornerback Chris Harris will be added to the Pro Bowl roster as well. Harris is the first-alternate at cornerback for the AFC.

The Pro Bowl will be simulcast on ESPN and ABC on Sunday, Jan. 27. The game is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m. MT.
