John Elway is evaluating players at the Senior Bowl for the Broncos

John Elway joined Ryan Edwards, Andrew Mason and Steve Atwater of 1st and 10 at 10 on Orange and Blue 760. From the Senior Bowl, the guys asked Elway about the new coaching staff, and evaluating players in the draft process.

Being at the Senior Bowl gives Elway a chance to watch potential draft picks, including the quarterbacks. Mase asked him about being able to see them on the field level.

“Lotta good athletes… there’s so many draftable kids here, so it’s always nice to be able to come down here and watch ‘em move around in practice, and see some things that you can’t see on tape…”

After discussing the process leading to the draft, Mase turned the conversation to Vic Fangio’s new staff, which includes a few holdovers. Elway knows that coaches like Bill Kolar will be important for helping the new coaches to get a feel for the players on the team.

Eventually, the conversation turned to the Hall of Fame. As the staff at Mile High Report continues it’s 27-in27 push for Steve Atwater to get into the Hall, Elway talked about getting more players into the hall.

With Pat Bowlen likely going in, it would be nice to see Atwater go in with him. “You know, we opened the door a little bit for some Broncos, and now it’s time to knock it down.” I couldn’t have said it better myself.
